  A masterpiece of Amsterdam School architecture built in 1913, very great stay!

  Pluspunten: the hotel is like a masterpiece, you feel as a king at his room, i liked the details of architect, since it's an old built building famously known as the Scheepvaarthuis (The Shipping House), a masterpiece of Amsterdam School architecture built in 1913

  Comfort away from home.

  Pluspunten: The cleanliness convenient location and the staff were willing to help us with anything we needed even Internet connection as soon as we arrived because I had a business deal to sort out on my iPad at 8 o’clock in the morning!

  Minpunten: The gymnasium equipment needed repairs. The swimming pool was empty and in need of repair.

  Great Location

  Pluspunten: Super nice vintage hotel located in a great spot everything is within walking distance around the main attractions. Really comfortable bed my room selection was very spacious with a high ceiling. Awesome heated floor in the big clean restroom that was a well-taken surprise. Plenty of storage space and a nice setup.

  Minpunten: My room was right by the main street so street noise and people chatter were really high throughout the night. The bed is encased in a wooden box so when getting out of bed your hamstrings/legs will hit against the wooden boards. The shower heads are facing the toilet so it will get everything all wet and you need to make sure you move the toilet paper away since they will get soaked. Some of the electrical plugs do not hold the plugs in tightly so the plugs kept falling off. Finding your room can be quite tedious too since rooms are oddly separated along with the elevator locations. Hopefully on busy days there could be more staff since it took a while to order since there were only a limited amount of employees in the bar area.

  Minpunten: المشكلة نفسها بكل فنادق هولندا هي عدم وجود شطاف او بيديه او اي طريقة للتنظيف الذاتي داخل التواليت يعتمدون على المحارم فقط الوان الفندق كئيبة التنظيف اليومي ليس جيدا حجزنا غرفة على القناة اعطونا إياها على قناة صغيرة جانبية لا أدري هل هذا حقا ماحجزناه ؟لأنه يوجد قناة واسعة ومنظر رائع من الجانب الاخر

  Triste séjour

  Minpunten: I booked a two-night stay at this hotel for my partner’s 28th birthday, wanting to treat him to a trip to Amsterdam—a city neither of us had visited before. Having seen several television features on 5-star hotels, we were curious to experience one for ourselves; we imagined that an establishment of this caliber would offer a level of quality and service we don’t usually encounter. Unfortunately, our expectations were far from met. Upon arrival, we were told that the hotel’s parking facility was inaccessible—allegedly due to a jammed gate—and were directed to a parking lot (via Booking.com) about 800 meters away. While the cost (€40 per night) wasn't the main issue, having to walk 800 meters with our luggage—especially when arriving at a 5-star "luxury" hotel that claims to offer valet service—was a real ordeal. Since we arrived early, we left our belongings to be taken up to our room; however, when we returned around 5:00 PM, we discovered that the room we had been assigned was arguably the worst in the entire establishment—and our suitcases weren't even there (we had to go retrieve them ourselves). The heating didn't work, the curtains were coming off their tracks, the cleanliness left much to be desired, and the TV stand was completely dilapidated; the overall condition was so deplorable that I would never dream of offering such a room to my own guests. Furthermore, the shower seals were not clean. We were deeply disappointed to have to pay over €350 per night to stay in such conditions. We had to make a detour via the reception, which caused us to be late; unfortunately, our restaurant reservation—at a venue located outside the hotel—was cancelled as a result of our late arrival. Quite a memorable start to our stay! Then, the following morning, we discovered another issue. We had specifically chosen this hotel to take advantage of the swimming pool, sauna, and jacuzzi—we had even used the search filters on Booking.

  Minpunten: Bardzo stary, brudny i odrapany hotel. Fatalne, zaniedbane pokoje a w szczególności łazienka. Straszny smród z odpływów. Grzyb w brodziku prysznicowym. Poobijane drzwi, okna, stare dywany i wszechobecne stare, zakurzone materiałowe tapety. Hotel sprawia wrażenie jakby od kilkunastu, jeśli nie od kilkudziesięciu lat nikt go nie remontował. Zwracam uwagę, że to hotel 5 gwiazdkowy. Ze względu na poziom jego utrzymania - do generalnego remontu. Basen nie działa. Zasługuje nie więcej niż na 2 - 3 gwiazdki. Cena za pobyt jest stanowczo za wysoka w stosunku do jakości i standardu. Jedna pozytywna opinia odnośnie do tego hotelu jest taka, że ma bardzo dobrą lokalizację, oczywiście jeśli ktoś potrzebuje starej części miasta.

  Minpunten: Kompletter Sauna und Wellnessbereich war nicht wie ausgeschrieben, sondern im Umbau, Pool war gesperrt. Jacuzzi war nicht mehr vorhanden und Nass.Sauna hat gestunken. Zimmer fürchterlich, laut Türen uralt, wie als wenn man auf dem Gang schläft.

  Minpunten: The Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam features an underground Spa & Wellness center that is complimentary for hotel guests. However, in October and November 2026, the main indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, and steam room are temporarily out of service for maintenance. The fitness room and traditional saunas remain open and fully operational.

  Eccentric, old-world building – wonderful room and great location in Amsterdam

  Pluspunten: The room itself was really comfortable and a striking, old world vibe. Heavy wood, very high ceilings, heavy drapes... in the morning I felt like I was waking up in an old Dutch master painting. The view of the canal was nice and as advertised. Our room was quiet and my husband, who wasn't feeling well, stayed inside all day and said it was really restful. Our bathroom was wild - basically a glass room set inside an old room, with a step up to access. I thought it was a very clever solution for retrofitting a building into a hotel, but I've never seen anything like it! Overall fabulous room.

  Minpunten: The common areas of the hotel were very disjointed and felt run down. There was a beautiful dining room space and I asked specifically for a restaurant recommendation, and the staff suggested their in-house Seven Seas Restaurant. Which I booked, only to find out it was closed for dinners, and the dinner we reserved was served in the bar/lounge. It was fine, and the overworked staff did their best (and they said they would remind the front desk the main restaurant is closed and only serves breakfast?!), but not what I was expecting. The pool was closed for renovations and the whole basement/fitness/spa area seemed woefully unattended to. Some of the other quests in our party had some very odd rooms, one in an "attic" which required two elevators and a google map to try to find. The numbering choices and signage were truly bizarre. At one point I came upon an elevator with the door wide open, just running... seemed very unsafe. The staff was nice, but seemed to be under new management. The bones of the building are stunning - just felt that with a little love and organization, the common spaces could be as inviting as the room.

  Bene ma non impeccabile per un 5 Stelle...

  Pluspunten: L'esterno della struttura ha quel qualcosa di magico e maestoso, letti puliti e molto comodi, da un effetto retro molto interessante e autentico, tipico olandese.

  Minpunten: Non mi è piaciuto il fatto che l'hotel in se sembrasse quasi un labirinto, enorme e spazi molto dispersivi con tanti punti vuoti, capisco che sia allestito con l'obbiettivo di rappresentare la benevolezza di un tempo, però penso che debba in un certo senso compensare con la nostra quotidianità del 2026, per iniziare TV avranno almeno 20 anni, che per guardare un film su Netflix cosa ormai fondamentale si in tutte le strutture non era affatto possibile. Da mediterranei abbiamo trovato la stanza particolarmente fredda con spifferi d'aria per via del vento forte di amsterdam, non era possibile spingere la temperatura e regolarla a piacimento, cosa che ho trovato limitante in certo senso. Oltre a questo, servizio tanto aspettato era il lato Benessere/Spa che vanta di una piscina grossa, ottimo per rilassarsi e scaldarsi dal fresco di ottobre di Amsterdam, solo che non era disponibile, nonostante fosse 2 settimane dopo la programmata indisponibilità. Molto deluso, è stato forse un punto che mi ha spinto a scegliere amrath rispetto ad altre strutture. Personale super disponibile però per una struttura a 5 Stelle mi aspettavo immediata disponibilità a qualsiasi orario, cosa che a parer mio era scarso, dopo un certo orario, intorno alle 23:30 il front desk era spostato in uno stanzino, dove abbiamo aspettato 20 minuti per cambiare una tessera smagnetizzata per fermare un dipendente che si stava occupando di chiudere la zona risto/bar per ricevere l'informazione di andare proprio in quella stanza per risolvere il problema della tessera. Ovviamente sono completamente consapevole della tipologia e stile della struttura, quindi sono partito ben consapevole di cio che mi sarei dovuto aspettare, avendo avuto esperienza in altre strutture Retrò e purtroppo non ha soddisfatto le aspettative, creandoci qualche lieve disagio qui e lì.

  Minpunten: Пододеяльник был в дырках. В шкафу вещи, от предыдущего жильца.(К сожалению не работал не только СПА, но и обещанная сауна. Обещанный ваучер в СПА ( соседний отель Victoria) не выдали на ресепшн . Это было ключевым, при выборе отеля, так как мы были после длительного 10.5 часового перелёта. Но класс номера немного подняли( вид на канал), за что, спасибо.

  Wow, what a building, inside and out. Great staff, definitely worth staying here atleast once!

  Pluspunten: Fabulous staff, very attentive and helpful. Made our room special with rose petals, chocolates and welcome note. Amazing comfortable room & bed, gorgeous canal view, brilliant shower and bath tub. Good room facilities like free mini bar coke/water, Nespresso. Super central and very easy walk from Centraal Station for Eurostar and into town for sights and entertainment. The architecture of the building inside and out is just truly stunning and the history of the building. Lots of lovely details kept and explained.

  Minpunten: The Wellness facilities, pool etc were being refurbed or repaired so out of use. Whilst the room was generally clean, there is a lot of old mould in the shower etc on the sealant, this is a simple replacement job rather than it looking so dirty. Appreciate we were there during ADE, and I'm sure there are always events on in Amsterdam, and it is a 5* hotel, but it's very costly for what you get.

  Minpunten: Je suis arrivé le spa, la piscine était hors service alors que c’est pour ça que j’avais réservé. J’ai demandé si on pouvait m’offrir le petit déjeuner, ils n’ont même pas été capable de proposer un petit déjeuner gratuit ou un café. En plus j’avais une chambre qui sentait le tabac froid.

  Minpunten: We were expecting a 5 star hotel but i am afraid this is very far from it. The rooms and especially the bathroom is not clean at all. There was mould in the shower and some weird bug came up from the drain at some point. The bed has some really uncomfortable mattress protector which is moving all over the place and it was not comfortable! Breakfast is just as you would have in a premier inn or any other budget hotels! I wouldn’t book this hotel again ,even if it is cheaper than other 5 star hotels !

  Great staff, great location, amazing decor

  Pluspunten: The room was beautiful with a lovely canal view. Staff were outstanding. Breakfast was excellent.

  Minpunten: The bathroom, while unique & beautiful, was not as comfortable to use. Glass shower wall & counters were almost invisible in some lighting & so we bumped into them repeatedly. It was so pretty but sad to have these issues. (It would not keep us from staying there again though.)

  Minpunten: We booked and paid extra for a Canal View but got a room facing other windows around a small courtyard. Our room was not cleaned on the first day - wet towels still in the bath, cups not replaced / dirty, bed not made and fridge not restocked with water. Swimming Pool was out of action. The Hotel is old, tired and in need of a refurbishment

  Pluspunten: It’s gorgeous artwork and the building it self, so much history. Also, the beds and pillows were absolutely amazing! I would recommend staying here to anyone. Not just because of the beds but the staff was overly accommodating and true hospitality!

  We enjoyed our stay in this historic and very interesting hotel.

  Pluspunten: The hotel is a beautiful old building where they have converted offices to rooms. There is lots of beautiful wood and artistic glass. Our room was crowded (they could have used smaller table and chairs) but comfortable. We had a nice street view of the canal and it was pretty quiet. Our stay included breakfast and it was a wonderful buffet. There were lots of options. The hotel was also clean. We did have the room cleaning occassionally arriving late and once they missed us. However the front desk took care of getting our room cleaned. The location could not be better. It is walking distance to the train station/tram hub. There are many fine restaurants close by. We stayed there 8 nights and were very pleased with our trip

  Minpunten: Being an old, historic building, getting the correct temperature in our room was difficult. I sometimes felt cold, but could not adjust the thermostat by more than a couple of degrees.

  Pluspunten: De locatie was prima, alle personeel fantastics behulpzam mijn man mindervalid en ze hebben ons gemaklijk kamer voor hem, personeel in de restaurant heel sympstic en , vrindelijk en de badkamer heel erg profer. Mijn man blij met verjardaag kaartje😊. Alleen de kamer was heel te koud . De service room vrouw bracht een portabel heater voor ons. Onbijt en dinner was perfect, de food heel lekker en de prijs was cava. Ik heb het de lekkerste ribeye ooit gegeten, Zeker komen terug.

  Prachtig hotel op fijne locatie

  Pluspunten: Mooi ingerichte, ruime kamer. Heerlijke bedden en keus uit twee soorten kussens. Keurige badkamer, badjas/slippers, goede koffie/thee met iets lekkers. Parkeerfaciliteit was ook fijn en voor een goede prijs.

  Minpunten: Ik had niet door dat de gordijnen elektrisch te sluiten waren, dus dat was even zoeken.

  Pluspunten: El hotel es una maravilla. Edificio de los años 20 muy bien conservado. Ubicación estratégica cerca de los puntos de interés frente a la maravillosa estación de trenes en medio de dos canales con vistas espectaculares!! Pero lo mejor de todo ha sido la Atención y el Servicio . Muchas gracias a Marcos y Nicolas que se preocuparon extraordinariamente de nosotros en nuestra estadía .

  Great location and space for a few nights exploring Amsterdam with friendly and helpful staff

  Pluspunten: Staff - helpful, courteous and welcoming. Thank you for complimentary extended 1 hour checkout! Location - short walk from Centraal station, perfect for Eurostar and easy to go back and pick up luggage Room - decor is dated as expected. But very spacious and relaxed with chairs, desk, bathrobe. Essentials also - hairdryer, iron/board, shampoo etc. Bed was comfortable. Thermostat was helpful and heating/AC working! We had a street view (so the apartment block opposite) which was fine. A sofa would have been nice to relax properly - there was certainly the space for it. Lots of warm low-level lighting as well Breakfast - great selection, everything you could need to fuel on before a day out in A'dam. Eggs a la carte and the staff again helpful and friendly. A greater selection of fresh fruit would have made it better Restaurant - we ate dinner one night there, the wine was very nice and service good

  Lovely old hotel, great building. Staff downstairs were lovely, breakfast amazing, room service was not good or non-exis

  Pluspunten: We were upgraded to a junior suite because the pool was closed. Would have preferred the pool but appreciate the gesture. It was a very large room. The bar downstairs was great as was the breakfast.

  Minpunten: The sink in the room was leaking, which made all the towels damp and there was a vinegar smell in the bathroom. The room service food was not good at all, and overpriced. We got very ill during our stay but I can’t say that was the hotel’s fault.

  Not what I expected

  Pluspunten: Staff were friendly and provided, shower products and snacks, amazing location only a walk away from amsterdam central

  Minpunten: We asked for 2 single beds and ended up with a double with 2 single mattresses. The bathroom door also dont close with a latch and door design was such that it was see through. This was not ideal for sharing with my brother. When we pulled the mattress so my brother could sleep on the floor we found the mattress cover had many suspicious red stains. Also hotel had an old not modern vibe and had a musty smell throughout. Took a suprise 150 deposit on the day also still have not received back after 5 days leaving

  Classy and comfortable

  Pluspunten: The architecture of the building is absolutely charming. The room was clean and quiet with a comfortable bed. The central location is perfect. The price is fair.

  Minpunten: Unfortunately we got twin beds instead of a double bed even after specifically asking for a double bed. It was a minor inconvenience.

  Pluspunten: Very comfortable beds with large room and fresh bathroom. Great Breakfast. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. All these features added to a very pleasant stay in the Central Amsterdam with tram and bus at door step.

  Minpunten: Front Stairs as the ONLY entrance available, made it difficult to bring the luggage to the foyer.

  Tolles Ambiente mit Verbesserungspotential in Punkten die uns wichtig waren.

  Pluspunten: Das Hotel hat einen historischen Charme und das Frühstück ist Extra-Klasse. Nahe am Bahnhof, den Grachten und den Fähren gelegen konnte man alles in der Stadt zu Fuß erledigen. Ausflug an den Strand per Auto zu empfehlen. (45 min). Das Personal ist sehr gut geschult und hilfsbereit. Die Minibar mit Cola, Wasser Kaffee, Tee war immer gut gefüllt und inklusive.

  Minpunten: Wir hatten ein ruhige Zimmer mit Einzelbetten nicht am Lift reserviert. Die erhaltene Zimmer hatte keine Einzelbetten (zwei Bettdecken wurden auf Anfrage geliefert) und war sehr laut, da ein Lastenaufzug "vorbeifuhr". Nach Reklamation haben wir ein neues Zimmer mit upgrade erhalten. Das Hotel hat einen Privatparkplatz angegeben, dazu muss man wissen, dass das Auto beim Personal abgegeben wird und für 70 EUR + die Nacht abgestellt wird (wo?). Das öffentliche Parkhaus kostet auch 45 EUR für 24 Stunden und ist 10 min entfernt. Der Innenpool war bei unser Buchung bis Ende August nicht verfügbar angegeben - Anfang Oktober konnte der Pool immer noch nicht genutzt werden. Renovierung hatte noch gar nicht begonnen. Uns wurde angeboten das Schwimmbad des Nachbarhotels zu nutzen, was glücklicherweise aufgrund des guten Wetter nicht nötig war.

  Minpunten: Had to keep asking for a room clean No swimming pool in use.

  Pluspunten: Bed was comfy. Decent breakfast.

  Minpunten: The whole reason we chose this hotel was for the pool and spa. Pool was closed and we weren’t notified. Turned up at 4pm - check in was at 3pm - room wasn’t ready until 5pm!

  Location affascinante ma 5 stelle non molto realistiche

  Pluspunten: È un palazzo storico affascinante e la camera sul canale era bella e spaziosa. Personale cordiale. Zona comodissima, a pochi passi dalla stazione e dal centro. Apprezzati i prodotti spa in bagno, di qualità.

  Minpunten: Finestra del bagno non apribile, mancanza di un armadio.

  there are way better places to stay, this old dinosaur needs to get fossilized.

  Pluspunten: The hotel is a multi-level maze- super confusing, poor provision of lifts, long corridors that aren't safe.

  Minpunten: Weird layout of hotel, easy to get lost. Room very cold despite turning heating to max. Rooms OK in size but super-dated, like something from the 1950's. Bed comfortable, shower so confusing to get the temperature I wanted I abandoned trying. Morning porter not helpful (typische Nederland on customer service), whenever checking out and trying to ensure I got the business invoice I requested AT BOOKING, with an acknowledged response. That invoice did not arrive as specified. Will not stay again, will not recommend to colleagues, family or friends.

  Disappointed

  Pluspunten: We were actually staying at Deventer for a couple of nights We only booked one night in the Amrath as we had to catch an early flight from Schiphol the next morning.

  Minpunten: The hotel sent me 2 invoices within 8 seconds of each other and took 2 payments from my bank card. It took 5 days to have this refunded. No-one at the hotel would take responsibility for the error and tried to blame Booking.com who confirmed only one reservation was made. I felt that this was not acceptable for a 5* hotel. The bedroom was large but the bed was positioned too close to a raised wooden area where a table and chairs were placed. I felt this was a hazard when getting up in the night to go to the bathroom and banged my toe even though I am a small lady. Although we only had an overnight bag we didn't need a bell boy to help but there was no-one available if we had, again not good for such an hotel

  Nice location, tidy and comfortable rooms. Spa practically unusable

  Minpunten: Hotel staff would actively advertise spa facilities only to find out when attempting to use it that both the pool and the jacuzzi would be unusable and had clearly been for a while (no water in the pool and jacuzzi removed entirely). There were 2 saunas still functioning with no lounge chairs making in very impractical for any guest to benefit from it. A heads up from the staff would have come a long way.

  Minpunten: Pool was out of use and has been for months with no work being done on it at all. Also hotel is a little dated.
